Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Match Preview and Injury Updates on Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah

Naseem Shah officially ruled out of the remainder of the Asia Cup with a shoulder injury. Zaman Khan will replace him.

Not yet out, the medical reports for Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah are recent. Being observed by the Pakistan team's medical panel, they are both still. The team management asks for a swap from the ACC technical committee once either athlete is sidelined for one week.

On Thursday, September 14, 2023, the Asia Cup match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will take place. A significant setback for the Pakistan team would result if Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah were unfit to play. Two key players = weaker bowling attack.

Until there is formal word from the PCB, neither Haris Rauf nor Naseem Shah have been confirmed to be match-fit. Coming days will see additional medical tests for them. Team management decides on availability for the Sri Lanka match next.

Confident SL face injury-hit Pakistan in virtual semifinal

India was left out of contention for a final berth when Pakistan and Sri Lanka collaborated in the 2022 Asia Cup T20. Ahead in time to 2023, we witness the same dueling sides competing in a digital semifinal showdown with hopes of making it to the ultimate confrontation opposite Rohit Sharma's unit. With their 13-match win streak broken by India, Sri Lanka now looks far more cohesive than Pakistan ravaged by a series of injuries.

Of the remaining sides, only Sri Lanka has not managed a 300-plus tournament tally. With a diverse array of bowling options, they have successfully constrained opponents and bowled them out for 14 consecutive matches. Players like Dunith Wellalage have stepped forward to help Sri Lanka by either batting or bowling, following suit after other individuals in doing so

Hampered by injuries to key pacers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah, Pakistan may not see them play again during this Asia Cup. Although hurt, Shaheen Afridi found a way to contribute by batting despite his injury. Now that he has the ball, he needs to hit the ground running to help Pakistan secure a strong position. A massive 228-run defeat was suffered by Pakistan after their batting failed to impress, scoring only 128 runs. By setting an example, Babar Azam hopes for backing from the rest of the top order which has been inconsistent.

Calling Zaman Khan as a substitute for Naseem resulted in his finding a place in Pakistan's Eleven for their next game. Similarly, replacing Fakhar Zaman with Mohammad Haris led to a change in the team's lineup. Additionally, when Bowling Allrounder Mohammed Wasim Jr. was included in the squad, he also got recognized at the same time. In place of Agha Salman, Saud Shakeel entered the eleven after getting hit on the face while trying to play a sweep shot near Ravindra Jadeja. Instead of Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz joined the team as a spinner. As stated by the PCB, Rauf has been experiencing some discomfort in his right flank but has been recovering nicely.
